It is better that the Indians forget the tour matches and concentrate on the test series starting soon. This match can only remembered for a great knock by Sachin, who scored 171 runs in the first innings and saved the face for the Indians.
Dhoni had a good knock in the first innings of 76 runs from just 84 deliveries and ensured that he is in the race for the final eleven.
The Indian bowlers struggled against the England Lions in the three day tour match. It would be a setback for Dravid that the bowlers were unable to bowl the opponents out even once. It leaves Dravid with very little option for the first test match starting on 19 July. With Ranadeb Bose and Ishant Sharma not performing to the expectations, it only leaves with three other seamers Zaheer Khan, Sree Santh and R. P. Singh. The spinner slot will go to Anil Kumble. The fifth bowler will be Ramesh Powar, most likely option.
If the bowlers had not given much options to the captain, it is the other way as far the batsmen are concerned. In my opinion, Karthik, Dravid and Sachin are certain starters. There will be a fight for the next three slots. Wasim Jaffer did not do well in the tour matches and he will be stronlgly challenged by Gambhir for the opener's slot. The remaining two slots will be taken up by Sourav, Laxman, Dhoni and Yuvraj. It is difficult to determine who will make it to the final eleven.
