Team India eliminated from the World Cup 2007

It is one of the biggest moments in Bangladesh's sporting history. It will also go down as one of the heart-breaking moments for the Indian fans. Any hopes of a Bermuda win, that would propel India into the next stage, was dashed by a sweet seven-wicket triumph by the Bangladeshis. It was a wet, gloomy affair that reflected the Indians mood probably.

Bangaldesh (96/3) defeated Bermuda (94/9) with Duckworth-Lewis coming into picture. With that win, Bangladesh moves into the super eight stage together with the leaders Sri Lanka from group B.

Sri Lanka won by 69 runs.

After letting Sri Lanka score 254 runs, the Indians did not pose any challenge at any stage in spite of the fact that this is one of the most important matches in their career. Eventually, the Indians were all out for just 185 runs, the skipper Rahul Dravid's 60 runs being the highest. Sehwag played a better innings of 48, but not just enough to have any impact on the result.

The Indians have made a mess of it. Now, they are almost eliminated from the World cup even though theoretically they still have a chance. For the last gate to open, the Bermudans must beat Bangladesh. Possible? Let the Indians pack their bags to fly with the Pakistanis.

India vs Bermuda, ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 - Group B
Date: 19 Mar 2007

Catches : 1 / Stumpings : 0
Batting: 29 runs (25 balls), 4s: 2/ 6s: 1

India won by 257 runs.

A display of creative and aggressive batting helped India to post a massive total of 413, a record total in World Cups. Sehwag, the out of form batsman, scored a century and Yuvraj Singh showed his powerful hitting skills. The bowlers had bundled out Bermuda for 156 runs.

India have done everything right in their effort to qualify for the next round. Having boosted their run rate, now all they have to do is just beat Sri Lanka without much worry about the run rate. Can they do it?

India vs Bangladesh, ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 - Group B
Date: 17 Mar 2007

Catches : 1 / Stumpings : 2
Batting: 0 runs (3 balls), 4s: 0/ 6s: 0

Bangladesh won by 5 wickets (with 9 balls remaining).

A disastrous start for the Indians in the World cup. They started as run-away favourites to win this match, if not the tournament. But, it was poor batting from the Indians that led them down. Ganguly and Yuvraj tried to steady the boat, but once Yuvraj gone the boat came rocking down. From a relatively good position of 157-4, they slumped to 159-9. Five wickets tumbled in the space of 15 deliveries for the addition of just two runs. The score was given some respectability due to the last wicket partnership of 32 runs between Zaheer Khan and Munaf Patel.

Can India qualify for the super-eights after this upset? Yes, they can, but they must beat the Sri Lankans now.
