Test Cricket beats ODI

I have written sometime ago that Cricket is boring. In fact, I should rewrite that article that ODI cricket is boring. If the recent test series against Australia and the first two ODI matches against England are any indication, then I can conclude that Test cricket is here to stay. And ODI format will make way for Twenty20 format.

Test Cricket is Interesting
Just recall the four test matches between India and Australia. We saw gripping contest between two teams, one that could not accept defeat and another one fighting to go on top of the table. Every match had its own twists and turns, that made each day of the test match interesting to watch. The first match went to the last day and Indians forced a draw. The second match saw how clinically a victory could be achieved against the World Champions. The third match saw a see-saw battle and ended in a draw. The final match once again stretched to the last day and probably India won the match as Australia decided to go for the kill on the last day. Interesting twenty days of cricket.

ODI is Boring
Just look at the two ODIs so far concluded against England. The first match was a no-contest once Yuvraj Singh and Sehwag hammered the bowlers. The match was all but over at mid-stage. Its merely a formality to be completed for Dhoni's men. Eventually they bowled out England for 229 runs and won the contest by a whopping margin of 158 runs. If anyone expected a better contest in the second ODI, it all lasted only for the first ten overs. From then on, it was India's way all along. England fell short again, this time by a margin of 54 runs. Will we able to see a better contest in the coming matches?

Future of Cricket
ICC is trying everything to bring back interest to the ODI format. Supersub rule, changes to powerplays, mandatory ball changes, ... Nothing seem to work so far. If nothing happens drastically in favour of ODIs, I expect Twenty20 to take over as the preferred shorter version. With the successful emergence of IPL and other Twenty20 leagues everywhere, it is only logical to conclude that Test Cricket and Twenty20 will see the end of ODIs. The format that ruled the game of cricket for close to 25 years might come to an end soon.

Dhoni clinches LG ICC ODI Player of the Year Award

Mahendra Singh Dhoni celebrates

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has won the ODI Player of the year award at the LG ICC awards ceremony held in Dubai on 10 Sep 2008. This year’s LG ICC Awards included eight individual prizes, including a new one for the Twenty20 International Performance of the Year that went to Yuvraj Singh for his amazing six sixes off Stuart Broad.

Nominees for the award
India's one-day and Twenty20 International captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been nominated for the award along with Sachin Tendulkar, Mohammad Yousuf and Nathan Bracken. The award was given based on the players performance during the period between August 9, 2007 and August 12, 2008. Let us take a look at the comparison of the four players’ performance during the above period.

Analysis of the performances
The table below lists the performance of the four players during the mentioned period. The players include one bowler, two specialist batsmen and one wicket-keeper batsman.

Performance of nominees for LG ICC ODI Player of the Year Award
It is very clear that everyone has performed well and it is difficult to prefer one above the other. During the period under consideration, Dhoni won three man of the match awards, Sachin too had three, Yousuf had two and Bracken was content with one. Yousuf had won the player of the series award for the South Africa series at home while Bracken clinched the series award for his performance during CB series in Australia.

Why the award went to Dhoni?
I believe Dhoni inched ahead of the others due to his wicket-keeping skills and his able captaincy. During this period, he has led the Indian team in 31 matches. The result is in favour of Dhoni with 16 wins, 12 losses and 3 matches with no result. Dhoni’s achievements, as captain, include a series victory over Pakistan at home, CB series triumph in Australia, finals appearance in Kitply cup and Asia cup. His batting average also shoots up to 59.10 while playing as a captain.

Milestone
Dhoni becomes the first Indian to win the ODI player of the year award. The last four awards went to England twice (Flintoff and Pietersen) and Australia twice (Hayden and Michael Hussey).

Other Awards

  • Cricketer of the year: Shivnarine Chanderpaul (West Indies)

  • Test Player of the year: Dale Steyn (South Africa)

  • Twenty20 International Performance: Yuvraj Singh (India)

  • Emerging Player of the year: Ajantha Mendis (Sri Lanka)

  • Captain of the year: Ricky Ponting (Australia)

  • Umpire of the year: Simon Taufel (Australia)

  • Associate Player of the year: Ryan ten Doeschate (Netherlands)

  • Women’s Cricketer of the year: Charlotte Edwards (England)

Dhoni’s Scores by Batting Position

Dhoni is consistently changing his batting position in the ODI team. He likes to keep himself floating around in the middle order to accommodate others around. He displays a true leader’s quality in helping others to perform ahead of him. But, where should he bat? Which is the best position for him? With these questions in mind, I did an analysis of his previous 118 matches, of which he went in to bat 105 times. The analysis includes all matches until 24 Aug 2008, including the third ODI recently completed against Sri Lanka.

Batting Positions
When he started playing for India, he was considered to act as a bridge between the batsmen and the bowlers. This is where, normally, most of the wicket-keepers fit in. So, in his first series against Bangladesh, he came in at No. 7. Things changed in the immediate next series against Pakistan. In the second match of the series, he was asked to bat at No. 3. He responded with an aggressive knock of 148, his first ODI hundred.

In the next series, Indian Oil Cup involving Sri Lanka and West Indies, he opened the innings with Sehwag in the first match against Sri Lanka. That’s a rare occasion. He has opened the innings for India only twice, against England being the other one. Since then, he was tossed around the batting order, anywhere from #3 to #8. But, the majority of the innings were at #4 to #7.

In the last five matches he played, all of them against Sri Lanka, he came in at #4, #5, #6, #5 and #6. In the Kitply cup final against Pakistan, he batted at #7. Dhoni himself admitted that it was a mistake and he would prefer to come in early. Now, let us look at the statistics.

Runs Scored By Batting Position
The following graph shows the number of runs scored by Dhoni at the various batting positions.

Runs Scored By Dhoni at various batting positions
As you can see, he has been there up from #2 to all the way down at #8. His main contribution comes from #6 at a total of 1218 runs. His scores at #3, #4 and #7 are very close to each other and are hovering around the 600 runs mark. Dhoni’s contribution at #5 is also not far behind that mark. Certainly, #2 and #8 do not look good. If you look at the number of innings he has played at each position, then it becomes clear that he has played most of his innings at #6. That explains the reason for the spike at #6.

Number of Innings played by Dhoni at various batting positions
Career Averages and Strike Rates
To put things in perspective, let us look at the following graphs depicting the career averages and strike rates.

Average Scores of Dhoni at various batting positions
Strike Rates of Dhoni at various batting positions
Interestingly, he has a phenomenal average of 94.00 at #4. This coincides with an astounding strike rate of 112.67. He has scored a century and 7 half-centuries during his 11 innings at #4 position. His statistics at #3 also looks very healthy with 2 centuries and 2 half-centuries. He has an average of 42.00 at #6, which is better than #5 and #7. Interestingly, he has a century to his name at #7. But, that came when he was batting for Asia XI against Africa XI.

Data Used
The complete data used for the analysis above is listed below in a tabular format.

Scores Table for Dhoni at various batting positions

Conclusion
I feel that Dhoni should bat at #4, which looks like his favourite position. But, until the Indian youngsters start to play their role to perfection, Dhoni will be a floater in the batting line-up. He likes it and enjoys it. Let us see what else is in store for us!

Expect the Unexpected

Cash is one commodity that you don't find when you are really in need of it. There are situations when you cannot afford to wait. It could well be an emergency, a well deserved holiday, school fees or any other unexpected expenses that needs your immediate attention. The idea is to have just enough cash to tide over until the next payday.

This is where payday loans can come in handy for you. Payday loans are also known as cash advance loans, check advance loans and deferred deposit check loans. It is that form of loan which helps you to get small amount of money for a shorter period of time. Normally, the loan amount ranges from about $100 to $1500.

Just be careful when you are on the look-out for payday loans. Compare the various offers available. You have to find the credit offer with the lowest Annual Percentage Rate (APR). APR reflects the total cost of credit, expressed as an annual percentage of the amount of credit. It makes it easier to compare lenders and loan options.

It is certainly true that payday loans charge a higher interest compared to other forms of credit. But, the higher interest is offset by the simplicity of Faxless Payday Loans. It is also very helpful to those with bad credit history and to those who do not like to go through the banks’ credit approval process.

PaydayLoanQuotes.com is a FREE comparison service where you can request quotes from their network of licensed lenders. They will attempt to match your information with a lender. While they do not guarantee a perfect match, they compare offers from various lenders to find the lowest rate available for your profile.

While you take the payday loan, just make sure you borrow only as much as you can afford to pay with your next pay check. You should also have enough to make it to the following payday, after paying off your loan.

The sea side town of Kyrenia with its surrounding mountain villages offers all the modern facilities of an European town. Kyrenia is the most popular area for property investment. Alternative vegetable supplement for healthy lifestyle

You need a balanced diet to have a healthy lifestyle. A balanced diet is a diet that has all the essential nutrients in right proportions. It means having different types of food in appropriate amounts.

We are normally dictated by our taste buds, and very rarely we look at our bodies’ nutritional needs. Our favorite foods feature plenty of starch, fats, salt and sugar, and often plenty of meat.

Fruits and vegetables are high in vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre. Naturally, they have very low fat. Fibre plays a vital role in reducing the risk of diabetes, hypertension and heart diseases.

Lane Labs, LLC, a specialty company for daily supplements has just released a high-end daily nutritional supplement and is giving away thousands of free trial packets. My Daily Veggies, a delicious blend of whole dried vegetables that you can mix with water and drink, or mix into your favourite dishes to boost their nutritional value. It’s good for your health! And it tastes like vegetables. You get the same fiber, the same vitamins, the same minerals, enzymes and phytonutrients as real fresh (or canned or frozen) vegetables. The only things missing are the salt and sugar that many manufacturers add when they process foods. My Daily Veggies contains NO added salt, NO added sugar, NO preservatives.

Try it out and Drink My Daily Veggies.

My favourite Online Store: Dell

Dell is one of the best known online company. Dell is very confident and promoted the concept that by going online, they can cut-down the middleman and pass on the savings to customer. This direct selling approach has helped Dell to customize each and every product they sold to customer. In fact, I liked this concept as it gave me the freedom to choose what I want and discard the features that I am not really interested in. You can choose various products and compare their prices.

I enjoyed their services and in fact bought some desktop computers for my company through their online service. Recently, I came to know that you can shop online and save using Dell Home coupons and promotional codes.

This service is offered by KeepCash.com. I found that KeepCash offer a complete list of all the Dell Home coupon codes on the web. Some coupon codes require a minimum purchase to receive the discount, so please checkout the KeepCash website for further details.

To summarize, KeepCash is a deal and online shopping coupons website. They provide you with money saving coupon codes along with the best product deals that are designed to help you keep cash in your pocket, which is where it belongs. Using KeepCash is simple! Just click on the Deals tab to see the latest product deals, or you can find some money saving coupon codes by clicking on the Coupons tab.

PPP Direct: A win-win solution for the advertiser and the blogger

PayPerPost has launched the PayPerPost Direct, a different dimension to the Get paid to blog review system adopted by PayPerPost. There are two problems with the original PayPerPost concept:

1. Advertisers have no control on who will write the reviews for them.
2. Bloggers have to be on their toes to get the right opportunity to write. Most of the time, a good opportunity with more revenue is taken up by those vigilant bloggers online. So, the bloggers have to choose a less paying opportunity or an opportunity that is not related to the main content of their blog.

With PPP Direct, PayPerPost makes an attempt to address these two issues. While bloggers with less popular blogs would still continue with the mass marketing strategy, those bloggers with good reach and traffic would love the new one-to-one approach.

The most attractive part of PPP Direct is that their service charges is comaratively lower than their main competitors. A quick search on the SponsoredReviews web site gave me an indication that they charge 35% transaction fees. Likewise, ReviewMe seems to charge about 50% for the review offer. So, if the advertiser offers $100 for a review, a blogger will get only $50 from ReviewMe, $65 from SponsoredReviews while he will get as much as $90 from PPP Direct.

With PPP Direct, the bloggers have the freedom to fix their own review prices. They can offer cheaper reviews and attract more advertisers or increase their review prices slightly and earn more money with less reviews.

At the end, this is a win-win situation for both the advertiser and the blogger.

PayPerPost Gets $7Million in Funding

Its not long ago Edward "Ted" Murphy, a world-renowned leader in interactive marketing, has laid the foundation for PayPerPost. Ted launched the company's service in June and PayPerPost became the world's first Consumer Generated Advertising Network. PayPerPost is a grand success thanks to Murphy's creative prowess and passion for unconventional marketing.

PayPerPost announced yesterday that they received $7 million dollars in funding. The financing, in fact, brings the total amount of capital raised by PayPerPost to over $10 million, giving the company considerable resources for further development as the industry’s leading Consumer Generated Advertising marketplace.

I have enjoyed being with PayPerPost as a blogger. I am also sure that there are many, many satisfied advertisers supporting PayPerPost. The new funding shows exactly this. PayPerPost established themselves in the new revolutionary concept in advertising and this pays off. PayPerPost laid the necessary foundation to stay for ever and it continues to attract a critical mass of participants from both the advertising and blogging communities. It is believed that PayPerPost’s business model will enable the company to thrive in the evolving paid-content arena.

To express their appreciation to the advertisers and bloggers for the overwhelming support during the last eleven months, PayPerPost has announced a 7 day promotion called Lucky 7s.

Here is the full version of the press release from PayPerPost:

The PayPerPost Revolution Accelerates, Sponsored Blogging Marketplace Secures $7 Million Series B

Draper Fisher Jurvetson leads round and joins Board of Directors

ORLANDO, FL – (June 12, 2007) – PayPerPost, the leading marketplace for advertisers to reach bloggers and other consumer content creators, today announced it has completed a $7 million second round investment led by Draper Fisher Jurvetson, an investor in the company's Series A and one of the world’s leading high-technology venture capital firms. The financing brings the total amount of capital raised by PayPerPost to over $10 million, giving the company considerable resources for further development as the industry’s leading Consumer Generated Advertising marketplace. Additional participants in the round include existing investors Inflexion Partners and Village Ventures as well as new investor DFJ Gotham. With this investment, DFJ Managing Director Josh Stein also joins PayPerPost’s Board of Directors.

“PayPerPost created this exciting new advertising space and has established itself as the industry leader,” said Ted Murphy, chief executive officer of PayPerPost. “Although we’ve only used a portion of our first round capital, this added support from investors unlocks significant growth potential. Our content creator and advertiser ROI metrics clearly demonstrate the upside for PayPerPost’s model. We intend to use this capital to build the infrastructure, visibility and professional expertise necessary to reach and retain a greater network of advertisers and content creators than ever before.”

Since its founding in June of 2006, PayPerPost has signed more than 6,500 advertisers to its groundbreaking service, which has enabled Consumer Content Creators to be compensated for their efforts discussing specific companies, products or services via blogs, videos or other media. The content creators are required to disclose relationships with advertisers on their blog, providing transparency for the end reader. Over 125,000 Internet postings, most in the form of blogs, have already earned money for their creators through PayPerPost’s innovative marketplace. PayPerPost recently released PayPerPost Direct, a disruptive new service that allows advertisers to contract and negotiate directly with individual bloggers they identify through a safe, managed system.

“PayPerPost has laid a strong foundation for the future,” noted Tim Draper, founder and managing director of Draper Fisher Jurvetson. “It continues to attract a critical mass of participants from both the advertising and blogging communities. Analogous to Overture’s sponsored search model, we believe PayPerPost’s business model holds disruptive potential and will enable the company to thrive in the evolving paid-content arena.”

To mark the $7 million dollar funding, PayPerPost has launched a new website detailing the company’s service offering at http://www.payperpost.com. Bloggers and advertisers can easily sign up at the site and begin leveraging the self service marketplace.

SCORE : Love to learn

SCORE Education Centers are widely recognized by media as one of the top tutoring service providers in the United States. SCORE has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, The New York Times and The Boston Globe – just to name a few.

One thing attracted me to SCORE is their caption "When children love to learn, they will learn". True enough. In fact, we, as parents, have experienced this throughout our life. We have heard "Love your job, You won't be working even a single day. You will enjoy it". The same concept has been applied by SCORE to children education. How great!

SCORE Educational Centers have been providing kids with a fun way to catch up, maintain and get ahead in their studies. SCORE works with children in grades pre-K through 10th grade to help them achieve their goals and reach their academic potential in mathematics, reading, spelling and writing. Their curriculum include personal academic coaching, positive reinforcement, and a customized curriculum that adapts to each child's pace and learning needs.

Their summer programs are built based on the research finding that kids lose an average of one month of learning over the summer break. Help your student have fun, retain learning and get ready for a great school year with a Score Summer Program.

PayPerPost makes bloggers grin

I started blogging close to a year ago. My plan is to have a simple platform to put across my views. Once that first goal was reached, I wanted to make some decent money online. I tried affiliate networks like Commission Junction and then Google AdSense. With due respect to these programs, I was making negligibly small amount of money. It was not my cup of tea. I was slowly getting lost in the cyberspace.

That’s when I came to know about PayPerPost (PPP). PPP is one central location that connects bloggers and advertisers. It pays bloggers for writing reviews about websites, products, services and/ or companies. The one thing that is special about PPP is the TRANSPARENCY with which they review blogs for acceptance.

In fact, even before PPP, I tried to sign up with one of their competitors. But, they straightaway rejected my blog without citing any reasons whatsoever. The standard answer popped up “Your blog does not qualify. Please submit your blog after few months”. It’s like a black box approach. I had no idea how to improve my blog to get it accepted.

So, when I submitted my blog to PPP, I was doing it with a bit of skepticism. As expected, my first submission was rejected. But, to my surprise, the PPP team gave me a clear reason for rejecting my blog. I took my time to set right my blog. In a few days again, I made my second attempt. Again, it was discarded; once again with valid reasons. This time I was more confident. I submitted my blog for the third time after taking into consideration the reasons for rejection. My blog was accepted the third time. I should salute the PPP team for guiding me in the right direction.

So, I happily started to explore the opportunities provided by PPP. The first opportunity I took got me $6, which is almost my one year’s earnings through other sources. My second opportunity brought me $10. Now, I am a happy PPP blogger, juggling between my regular posts and the opportunities presented by PPP
