Date: 19-23 July 2007
Day 2 (20 July 2007):
The second day was shortened by late start due to overnight rain. The match might have lost some time but certainly the game has livened up with more interest. The Indians came up strongly this morning to clean up the rest of the England batting for just 26 more runs. The English were bowled out for 298, facing only 65 deliveries today. It is a complete collapse considering they were as strong as 218 for the loss of just one wicket at one stage.
Full credit to the Indian bowlers. They clawed their way back when the situation demanded. Sree Santh picked up three wickets. Kumble, Zaheer and RP Singh picked up two each. Ganguly picked up one.
But, the Indian batting was not comfortable either. They lost two quick wickets, Karthik (5 runs) and Dravid (2 runs) and were lookin pathetic at 27/2. Jaffer (58 runs) once again played a responsible innings and put on a good partnership of 79 runs with Sachin (37 runs) to restore the innings. But, England can smile at the end of the day as they removed both Sachin and Jaffer. Ganguly (25 not out) and the night-watchman RP Singh (5 runs) are the not out batsmen at the stumps.
The match is interestingly poised with the Indians still 153 runs behind.
1st innings:
England 298 (Strauss 96, Vaughan 79, Sree Santh 3 for 67)
India 145/4 (Jaffer 58)
