Test match cricket provides the ultimate challenge for character, skill and patience in cricketers. If someone can claim that he had all those qualities, then it would certainly be Brian Lara. Lara currently holds the record for most runs in a test match innings. Lara is the only player to have touched the milestone of 400 runs in an innings. The West Indian also has a score of 375. Interestingly, his top two scores had come while playing against England.

The following is the list of players with scores of 350+ in test match innings:

1. Brian Lara, West Indies - 400 not out
2. Mathew Hayden, Australia - 380
3. Brian Lara, West Indies - 375
4. Mahela Jayawardene, Sri Lanka - 374
5. Gary Sobers, West Indies - 365 not out
6. Sir Leonard Hutton, England - 364
