Unstoppable Swiss Express

This blog is created to discuss about only one sport, cricket. But, one player forced me to change my decision and write about another sport. He is none other than the World No. 1 in tennis, Roger Federer.

Federer won his fifth consecutive Wimbledon Men’s Singles title and equaled the record held by Bjorn Borg. Watched by the legend himself, Federer defeated the ever-bouncing Nadal to clinch the title.

A title would not be remembered if it is clinched without a good fight. Nobody would remember the all-conquering Australian’s triumph in the recent cricket world cup as they are so dominating and there was no real opposition. Federer would not forget this title thanks to Rafael Nadal, the only player who has continuously challenged Federer. While Nadal repeatedly stops Federer at the French Open, Federer returns the favour in Wimbledon. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal went head-to-head for the 13th time in their careers in the 2007 Wimbledon final. It was their fourth meeting of 2007. While Nadal leads the overall record by a margin of 8-5, they are tied 2-2 in this year.

With this win, Federer has extended his grass-court winning streak to 53 matches and his Wimbledon winning streak to 34 matches. Federer is so dominating in Wimbledon, this is only his second five-setter in Wimbledon. It was the Swiss maestro’s 11th major title and he also drew level with Bjorn Borg and Rod Laver in the list of all-time Grand Slam title holders. Only Roy Emerson, with 12 titles, and Pete Sampras, with 14 titles, are ahead of him now.

  1. Interesting and sober site. It might have been further informative if a few more details of Roger Federer of his beginnings were added for the benefit of such as I.
